A little bit about our history....

Shower The People was incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit in Nashville, TN in 2017. Our founding board included: Russ Arnold, Caleb Pickering, and Danny Batson, all of whom volunteer in the homeless community through the Green Street Church of Christ in Nashville, which has served unhoused individuals for over 20 years.

Shower The People

Together they saw that showers are one of the greatest unmet needs of those individuals experiencing homelessness.

Our founding board felt called to do something about this need. Through their conversations and experiences, Shower The People was born.

The bus

Shortly after purchasing our bus, The Contributor ran an article about our organization. About a month after this article was written, Meredith MacLeod Jaulin, reached out to Russ requesting a coffee to learn more about Shower The People. The result of this meeting: Meredith became a member of the team.

Our bus is a 1990 International 3800 school bus with two full private bathrooms on board and the ability to connect to the hydrant system. Additionally, our bus can catch/carry 200 gallons of water for when a hydrant system is not available. The build out was a labor of love that was made possible by Kohler, 84 Lumber, Lowes, Golden Rule Construction, Tennessee College of Applied Technology, and all the amazing individuals who helped make our shower bus a reality.

Shower The People started weekly shower services in May of 2019 and has been providing showers to those in need ever since.
